I am a retired teacher who loves to travel, learn about new cultures, meet new people, and explore places that are off the beaten path. My husband, two English Cream Golden Retrievers, and I live just outside of Houston, very close to the NASA Johnson Space Center.
We love to explore the back roads of the United States in our Jeep Rubicon, take road trips around Texas in our car, and go out into Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico to photograph wild-life, regattas, and scenic views from the water. Our "down time" is spent relaxing by the pool, reading, and getting together with friends and neighbors.
The Korean Culture first drew my attention prior to the COVID lockdown in 2020, while watching Kdramas and listening to Korean bands. That led to me studying the Korean language and learning more about South Korea's history, geography, and people. In autumn of 2023 I was finally able to travel to South Korea and explore parts of Seoul, Busan, and some of the rural areas outside of Seoul. I fell in love with Korea and hope to return there in two or three years to continue my explorations there.
I was formerly an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher who taught grade migrant students English composition, grammar, spelling, and speaking skills, as well as Reading strategies such as context clues, vocabulary enhancement, root word parts to decode, and structural analysis to help students better critique the types of media they were asked to produce or read. It was important for me to make learning fun and meaningful, and so it turned out that I started instructing some of my students' non-English-speaking parents as well. It was a joy to see them open up and try to learn a new language so they could help their children with homework, and themselves so they could get better jobs.
A future goal of mine is to be able to converse in Korean, so if someone from Korea is interested in learning English, or needs help fine-tuning their skills, I'd be more than happy to help if you would be kind enough to help me learn how to speak and understand your language!
